Careers

Work where the supervision is real.

We hire slowly and we train properly. Every lawyer here has a named supervisor with an explicit obligation to review their work — and that obligation is assessed in the supervisor's own appraisal, not left to goodwill.

What we offer

Benefits, stated plainly.

Everything below is a written policy, not a cultural aspiration. Ask about any of it at interview and you will get the document.

Supervision that is real

Every lawyer has a named supervisor with an explicit obligation to review work and give feedback. It is assessed in their own appraisal.

Client contact from the start

Junior lawyers attend client meetings, hearings and completions. Nobody spends two years attached to a document review.

Transparent progression

Published criteria for every grade, reviewed twice yearly. You know what the next step requires before you are asked to take it.

Funded study and qualification

Fees and study leave for professional qualifications, further degrees and accreditation relevant to your practice.

Pro bono as chargeable work

Up to 5% of your annual hours may be pro bono and count fully toward targets. Partners participate on the same basis.

Hybrid working, honestly applied

Two days remote by default across most roles, adjusted around hearings and completions rather than around presence.

Parental and carer leave

Enhanced leave for all parents regardless of how they become one, with a structured return and a phased caseload.

Health and wellbeing cover

Medical cover for you and your dependants, and confidential counselling available independently of the firm.

How to apply

Four steps, roughly three weeks.

You will hear from a person at every stage, including if the answer is no. Send a CV and a short covering note explaining why this practice rather than another to careers@salawassociates.com.

01

Application review

Read by the partner leading the relevant group, not by a screening tool. You will hear back within ten working days either way.

02

First conversation

Forty-five minutes with two people from the group. Mostly about matters you have actually worked on and decisions you actually took.

03

Written exercise

A realistic drafting or analysis task, timed at ninety minutes and paid at your prospective hourly rate. You get written feedback regardless of outcome.

04

Final meeting and offer

With the managing partner. Terms, progression criteria and supervision arrangements are set out in writing before you are asked to decide.

Speculative applications

Nothing listed that fits? Write anyway.

We keep speculative applications on file for twelve months and review them whenever a role opens. Tell us what you want to be doing in three years.
