Mariam Farooq

Mariam Farooq leads the firm's family and private client practice. She advises on divorce and dissolution, custody and guardianship, maintenance and financial provision, and the succession disputes that follow a death in a family business.

She is an accredited mediator and resolves the substantial majority of her matters by negotiated agreement. This is a considered position rather than a soft one: mediated outcomes are faster, cheaper, private, and — where children are involved — materially better. Where the other side is not engaging in good faith, she litigates without hesitation and with a well-prepared file.

Mariam has particular experience in matters involving cross-border elements: relocation applications, recognition of foreign decrees, and families whose assets and children are in different jurisdictions. She works closely with the immigration team where a family's status and their family-law position are entangled.

She established the firm's protocol for handling matters involving domestic abuse, including restricted file access, separate waiting arrangements and safety-aware correspondence practice.
